Registering For Online Services

The practice will take every measure to ensure that your Patient Access application is secure. Patient Access is provided to you by our clinical provider EMIS. This is a free service, funded by the NHS, to give patients online access to:

  • Booking and cancelling appointments
  • Ordering repeat medications
  • Contacting the Practice (for non-urgent enquiries)
  • View your medical record for medications, allergies and adverse reactions.

Patients wanting access to their Detailed Coded Information MUST complete an additional form. This will be considered within the practice and granted if deemed appropriate within 10 days. This is a guide only and in some circumstances may take longer.

All requests for Detailed Coded Information will be dealt with on a patient by patient basis. Detailed Coded Information will not be the grant for children after their 11th birthday.

Registering to use Patient Access

There are two ways of registering to use Patient Access; both are available on the Patient Access homepage.

Register for Patient Access online

Register with a letter

You can apply for a Patient Access registration letter at Reception. You will need to bring proof of identity (e.g. your driving licence or passport) with you.

When you have a registration letter, use the steps below to set up your Patient Access account:

  • Go to https://patient.emisaccess.co.uk/Register.
  • Below the question ‘Have you received a registration letter from your practice’, select Yes.
  • Complete the details, using the information from the registration letter.
  • Type your personal details, create a password (this should be longer than six characters and contain at least one number and one letter), and then complete the security questions.
  • If you complete the security questions, you’ll be able to reset your own password if you forget it in the future. If you don’t complete them, you’ll need to ask your practice to reset your account.
  • Make a note of the user ID that’s generated for you, as you’ll use this to sign into Patient Access from now on.

Register online

You can also register for Patient Access without a letter, using the steps below to create a basic Patient Access account. To complete the registration and get a fully active account, you need to bring proof of identity into the practice and ask us to complete your registration.

  • Go to https://patient.emisaccess.co.uk/Register.
  • Below the question ‘Have you received a registration letter from your practice’, select No.
  • Follow the instructions to find your GP practice.
  • To complete the registration and get a fully active Patient Access account, take proof of identity to your practice and ask them to complete your registration.

Please note: An online appointment booking is for a SINGLE routine GP appointment only.

Registering your child

As a parent or guardian with parental responsibility, you have the right to request online access on behalf of your child and you can manage their appointments, regular medication requests and allergies UNTIL the child reaches the age of 16.

When the child turns 16 their account will be deactivated and they will be required to register in person (with ID) to apply for their own access in the same way as an adult.

If you feel you need to maintain online services for a child, perhaps because of learning difficulties or multiple medications to manage please discuss with the Practice Manager. It may be possible to reinstate certain services in such cases.

Proxy Access

A competent patient can choose and consent to allow access to relatives and/or carers. The appropriate application form should be completed.

Booking Appointments Online

Please ensure that you book your appointments appropriately. If you are unsure as to whether it is appropriate for you to see a doctor or nurse then please contact us by telephone.

Ordering medication online

Repeat medications can be ordered via Patient Access. Please allow 48 hours from your request before collecting your prescription from the surgery or nominated chemist. Please let us know if you wish to nominate a regular pharmacy for a collection of your medications as we can now send your prescription electronically.

Some medications will not show on your Repeat Medication list, these can be requested by sending a message through Patient Access.

Missed Appointments

If you are unable to attend your appointment please let us know as early as possible. You may cancel it online or telephone us. This will allow us to offer the appointment to another patient. We monitor all missed appointments on a regular basis.

Appointments for Family Members:

Unfortunately, the system is not flexible enough to allow you to book appointments for family members.

Contacting the Practice using Patient Access

We are happy for you to contact us through the Patient Access facility; however, it should not be used for urgent medical enquiries.

Password

Regular password changes are recommended to maintain the security of your account.

Inappropriate use of EMIS Patient Access

We are sure you will find this service useful. However, we will revoke your access to it if you abuse the service. For your access to be reinstated you must liaise with the Practice Manager.

We would consider inappropriate use of the system as:

  • Sending inappropriate or abusive messages.
  • Booking appointments and not attending more than twice in one year.
  • Booking appointments for other family members using your name.

You may click on this link at any time to be redirected to a page showing the current status of the service.

It is your responsibility to keep your login details and password safe and secure. If you know or suspect that your record has been accessed by someone that you have not agreed should see it, then you should change your password immediately.

If you can’t do this for some reason, we recommend that you contact the practice so that we can remove online access until you are able to reset your password.

If you print out any information from your record, it is also your responsibility to keep this secure. If you are at all worried about keeping printed copies safe, we recommend that you do not make copies at all.
